LINK Chooses Qualcomm Satellite Fleet Management System
WARSAW - May, 2005 - Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions (QWBS), the leader in mobile communications for the transportation industry, announced today that LINK Sp. z o.o., a leading transportation company in Poland, has signed a deal for fleet management and near real-time satellite communications. Qualcomm solutions will assist LINK in improving the management of its fleet and tracking locations of its vehicles. The system is expected to help optimize the usage of the fleet, improve customer service levels and improve safety by tracking vehicle and driver behavior. In addition, the Qualcomm system will assist in the compliance of driver’s working time with AETR (European agreement concerning the work of crew of vehicles engaged in International road transport) requirements, and allow two-way communication with the driver. Qualcomm system data will be sent directly to LINK’s dispatch software, which will increase management automation. LINK clients will be able to track their shipments online.“We thought long and hard about which fleet management system to choose,” said Dariusz Danielewski, director, transportation department for LINK. “We tested a number of systems offered in Poland and we finally chose the Qualcomm system, as it met all of our requirements. The most important factor for us is the robustness and reliability of the equipment; having access to a full suite of fleet management modules, including bi-directional messaging between the dispatch center and the driver; and of course complete integration with our logistics software, DCSi’s Logistics office IT platform. Another important factor is the system’s long-term return on investment. Qualcomm is unrivalled in this area. We expect that using satellite data services from Qualcomm for positioning and communications will result in lower costs for us.”
In addition to the QTRACS® module for vehicle positioning and information exchange between the company and the driver, LINK is expected to use the SensorTRACS®, HourTRACS® and ViaWeb™ solutions.
The SensorTRACS efficient monitoring system provides information to optimize fuel consumption and engine usage. The SensorTRACS module connects directly to vehicle sensors and the onboard data bus and provides a summary of engine uptime and the number of revolutions, mileage, speed and idle time, making it possible to identify vehicle parameters that a driver may influence. The information is sent to the dispatch center at regular intervals specified by the client or on demand via the EutelTRACS® system.
The HourTRACS module is used to monitor the driver’s working time. The system sends real-time data on the driver’s current activity and time (driving, working, resting, availability). It also warns of risk or excess in the acceptable working or driving time. The system provides daily and weekly reports, eliminating the need for tachograph readings. The system also helps the company enhance the efficiency of its schedule planning and ensure compliance with drivers’ working time regulations, because all information is received constantly, in near real-time, not once the driver has returned to the dispatch center.
The ViaWeb service uses the Internet to provide information on the current status and location of cargo/shipments, as well as emergencies.
